Another Master Student from our lab successfully defended her Master’s Thesis!

In the middle of October, Gosia Honc defended her thesis “Characterization of Sit4 protein phosphatase and its role as a regulatory subunit of the Elongator complex” with the highest mark possible and a distinction. The work focused on one of the Elongator’s regulatory factors – Sit4, a serine-threonine protein phosphatase from S. cerevisiae. The thesis was part of a research project conducted in collaboration with Prof. Schaffrath’s group from the University of Kassel, Germany.
Gosia started her work in Glatt Lab in 2019 as a summer intern (https://glatt-lab.pl/summer-internship-at-glatt-lab-why-not) and continued her work here throughout her Bachelor’s Degree. She finished it with a thesis about the biochemical characterization of a Sit4-associated protein, Sap185.
Then, during her Master’s degree, she continued exploring the convoluted story of Sit4 and its interacting partners, both in her Master’s project and in an independent Student’s Minigrant titled “Comparative interactomics of Sap protein family“ (https://glatt-lab.pl/pob-bios-funding-for-our-team-members/).
She was an active member of the student’s body – a vice-president of Biotechnology Students Association “Mygen” and a head of Organization Team of Polish Genetics Conference “Genomica”. During her work in Glatt lab, she also had a chance to be a part of our PR team. In the last year of her studies, Gosia was awarded with the Ministry of Higher Education stipend for her accomplishments.
Gosia, good luck with your future endeavors!
