Glatt Lab is always open to new projects and collaborations. We welcome scientists from all over the world to perform short-term internships in our facilities, where they can learn a variety of new techniques and get skills that will favour all of their future ventures in science! One very recent example is the stay of Antonio Longo.
Antonio is a 2nd-year PhD student from Italy. He is carrying out his PhD in the Structural Biology laboratory at Elettra Sincrotrone Trieste S.C.p.A, supervised by Silvia Onesti.

Antonio says: “Since the early stages of academic education, my main interest has been the understanding of cellular and biochemical pathways, namely how molecular machines work. According to that, my research project focuses on the structural and functional analysis of helicases, critical enzymes for the genome maintenance of human cells. Cryo-Electron microscopy is emerging as a powerful technique for structural analysis of enzymes, and being part of the Max Planck Research Laboratory at MCB, under the co-supervision of Sebastian Glatt, is an outstanding opportunity to meet and learn from highly experienced international scientists, accessing at state-of-the-art facilities.”
Through endeavours between Onesti’s and Glatt’s laboratories, a collaboration between the two has been established and Antonio was offered the opportunity to come to our lab and learn cryo-electron microscopy after having worked in X-ray crystallography in Italy in order to advance his project on helicases from September to December 2022.
Antonio was received in the Glatt Lab by 1st-year PhD student, Marta Walczak, and he was guided through a pizza tour in Krakow by many more team members!
