The MaxSIP Program gathers excellent students with top grades from all around the world and offers them an opportunity to spend up to three months on a fully paid, research-based internship in one of the best research institutes in the world. The program is highly competitive – accepting this year only 1% of the best candidates out of 1300 applications.
The group of Prof. Elena Conti studies various aspects of RNA biology – RNA transport, RNA Surveillance and RNA Degradation.
Gosia is working alongside PhD D. Sc. Anna Salerno-Kochan, a former PhD student of Glatt Lab, on a project about the nuclear exosome targeting (NEXT) complex. „The NEXT complex plays an important role in RNA quality control in mammalian cells. It directs non-functional transcripts to degradation by the exosome. Despite extensive research efforts, many aspects of this process are still enigmatic.” – says Gosia. „I want to understand the interaction network of NEXT and its interaction partners, firtst from a biochemical and then from a structural point of view. I’m glad that I can put some of the most important skills I gained in Glatt Lab into a good use. But I’m learning a lot of new methods too! Anna is a great supervisor.”

Alongside her research, Gosia explores the bavarian culture, with the biggest focus on Bavarian Alps. „This is a perfect way to spend my summer!” – she adds.
